Pure white Bengal tiger astonishes keepers
It doesn't take a wildlife expert to spot the difference between this white Bengal tiger cub and the rest of her family. For six-month-old Fareeda missed out when they were handing out the stripes.

That makes her an extreme rarity - and a major attraction at the South African conservation centre where she was born.

Fareeda's mother Geena and father Shiva are kept at Cango Wildlife Ranch, near Cape Town, as part of a breeding programme to keep their species alive.

As if I would miss an article about my beloved cats? She is so cute that I will die! But unfortunately there is no chance that she would survive in the wild...

Because other tigers would probably kill a tiger which looks different. Call it racism...

Oh that is SO cute! I love white tigers, is this one an albino? I guess not because the eyes look like they have pigmentation.

Nope: "White Bengal tigers are not albino - they have distinctive blue eyes, and they used to be found in Northern India before they died out."

Because you sensed the danger behind those tiny claws? ;)

Is Cango open to visitors? If so, now would be the time to go cuddle Fareeda, while it's still "oh, she nipped me" and not "MY ARM!"

The article says they used to be found in northern India, so I guess she could survive in the wild.

She could survive in India, but here she would be attacked by other tigers because to them she would look like an entirely different species and therefore would be perceived as a threat. With the exception of her own pride.

Actually I wanted to go to Cango these days but other things turned up and I couldn't. And I am leaving the country for a month so maybe I will see her when I return.
