My friend
nairiporter finally managed to get to Haiti on Monday...she is now working at a tent camp in Pétionville district, just above Port-au-Prince. She had been working with Unicef for years under various programs in Malawi, Zambia and Angola...and now she joined the Unicef effort in the Ouest area, which is particularly focused on a large group of children who were separated from their families by the disaster. I heard that the only building which fell in the town was unfortunately the hospital, but some of the big golf fields there are now hosting one of the largest contingents of US military who were sent there to help, and one of the aid distribution hubs is located nearby. Not much news comes from there these days, but I saw TV footage and the situation is indeed desperate...
