Off for a week...
Jun. 13th, 2011 10:42 pmTomorrow I am leaving for Zambia... For a week. The magazine where I work (Time-Out) often sends its reporters to contribute to various topics, and most times I am assigned to report on wildlife sanctuaries and the national park system. But this time the National Geographic commissioned us to help them with a research on a slightly different topic:
"Emissions Trading. An Ingenious Idea or Legalised Fraud?"
The title says it clearly. The research will cover a vast array of issues in relation to the so called Cap 'N Trade practice around the world.
My employers are going to send several reporting teams, one to the European Commission in Brussels, one to a large company in Germany which is big on Cap 'N Trade, one to China, one to the Stock Exchange in New York and the one I am on, to Zambia. We will report on several practices there which are in direct relation to the emissions trading on a more global scale. I will be back on 21st and I hope to publish parts of the work here shortly after that.
The luggage is packed, I got my vaccinations done last week, and everything is prepared. The trip starts tomorrow with a flight to Lusaka via Johannesburg. Then we will be allocated to a place in North Zambia. I feel a little anxious... I haven't been to such a long "mission" so far away before... I hope everything will be all right...
